Alumni need change, establishment defends showing
After scholar athletes were just required to watch the video” I’m Not Racist… Am I” by Davidson College, Davidson College students are calling for change. which categorizes all bright individuals as whites.
After learning that the North Carolina organization required student athletes to watch the video this quarter, the Davidsonians for Freedom of Thought and Discourse, an alumni-run free talk business, exposed and denounced it.
Notably,” the emphatic repeat that all light people are prejudiced, and people of color may be racist,” the business told The College Fix in a statement via email next week.
” The kids with whom we have spoken about this movie found it offensive, controversial, and physically insulting”, the firm stated.
Also, the athletic division opted to present the film on a Sunday evening instead of regular school hours, according to the business. The Athletic Department told The Fix that kids were disappointed that they had to work out for more than three hours on Sunday evening.
” But, are you saying that all white people are bigoted”?
“Yes.”
” We would also suggest that it’s only white people that could be prejudiced, that are prejudiced”.

Generally, the Davidsonians said they are concerned with the enforced nature of the seeing.
” Once, DFTD does not object to debate about racism that are racialized among friends or anyone else. A dangerous course of action is to press them to do so, according to the group’s speech to The Fix.
The free speech organization even expressed fears that the browsing might lead to fight among student athletes.
Will those friends who are considered to be” the oppressed” and” the oppressor” continue to have faith and respect for one another? the team said.
The Athletic Department’s support of such a movie “felt to us as a suppressing effect on the scholar-athletes,” the team said.
According to the party, 66 percentage of Davidson individuals “regularly avoid educated opposition in the classroom,” according to a survey conducted by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression.

The firm launched a petition late last month to fight for student privileges and stop future instances of ideological tyranny in response to the picture and other issues.
The petition even points to “numerous” school syllabi containing” questionable’ anti- oppression’ behaviors related to the course content” as another cause for concern. These included Spanish 101, multi mathematics, and body science classes, according to the business.
According to the petition,” some of these anti-obstructive statements make striking demands that students “actively identify and confront tyrannical behaviors” make.
Additionally, the syllabi include statements like” We can only determine how power and pleasure play out when we are conscious and committed to understanding how white supremacy, patriarchy, discrimination, heterosexism, cisgenderism, discrimination, and all other systems of tyranny affect each of us”, the party found.
Another class syllabus obtained by the group states,”… understand and embrace that you will feel discomfort and pain as you face your part in oppression.”
In an email to The Fix on March 5, Davidson College defend the video and the curriculum.
” Students encounter many ideas, perspectives, and beliefs about the world at college, and even though a reading or event is assigned, that does not mean that anyone at the college expects students to agree with every idea they encounter”, the statement said. ” Learning – and teamwork – is about exploring different ideas, countering with better ones, and expanding knowledge”.
However, the free speech organization said the college’s “anti- oppression directives obviously run counter” to its stated commitment to freedom of expression.
The organization stated that its leaders” will continue to work with students, faculty, and administration to ensure that Davidson supports a healthy, robust civil discourse environment that is tolerant of diverse ideologies.”
