Michael Whitaker, the head of the Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ), stated on Tuesday that his observations from a recent visit to Boeing’s facilities suggest there are issues with the safety culture of the industry giant.
During an interview with NBC Nightly News, Mr. Whitaker said that the FAA’s inspection and a lifestyle study of Boeing revealed the aeroplane manufacturer’s “priorities have been on generation, and not on security and excellent”.
” But what we really are focused on today, is shifting that target, from manufacturing to safety and excellent”, the FAA superintendent told the news outlet.
When asked if specific methods regarding the aircraft manufacturer’s approach to manufacturing were not being followed, Mr. Whitaker responded,” Not what you would include expected if safety is the first concern.”
