The Queensland Parliament has been given the power to keep cash as legal tender by the Katter Australia Party (KAP ).
Queensland KAP leader, and Member for Traeger Robbie Katter, put the motion to the lower house ( pdf ) on March 20.
The movement demanded that the state impose a requirement that all government buildings accept cash as a form of payment. In addition, it condemned any shift by local or federal governments to walk towards cashlessness.
Money is considered to be legal tender in Queensland, according to the see, and it “openly supports the right to use money as a legitimate form of payment throughout Queensland.”
