A major money agreement between Congress and the White House places a year-long restrictions on funding for the most important charitable aid organization in Gaza.
The agreement, which was approved by President Joe Biden on Tuesday, may require different countries like Saudi Arabia to make up the space and cost the United Nations agency millions of dollars. When the White House announced its support for the package on Tuesday, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East was never mentioned. It comes as thousands of Gaza residents are starving as a result of Israel’s conflict with Hamas.
” This]agreement ] will undermine the effort to assist starving Gazans and potentially further weaken regional stability”, the UNRWA told CBS News in a statement on Wednesday.  ,
The agreement had put off revenue until March 2025.
Before the war, the organization generally ran schools and provided healthcare to thousands of Palestinians. However, they have since become the primary source of assistance for providing all kinds of support, including food.  ,
Following Israel’s claim that the institution employed 12 people who participated in the criminal invasion of October, the Biden presidency temporarily stopped funding the business in January.  ,
Sen. James Risch (R-ID ) told the New York Times in a statement that” Not a single taxpayer dollar should be given to UNRWA” in response to the serious allegations that its members were involved in the October 7th attacks. Risch is the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee’s top position part.
According to the White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, nine of the 12 accused people have been fired, and two of the others have already died. However, more changes will need to be made, according to Kirby, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council.
“UNRWA has the approach, tentacles, and submission capabilities that no other business has in Gaza,” said the organization. That’s only a point”, Kirby said. ” Certainly, UNRWA is going to have to reform itself, plainly, because that’s really unacceptable behavior by person”.

The U.S. government has been airdropping foods into Gaza and is building a floating port 3 miles off the government’s shore to give more aid, despite the change in funding being a major decrease for Palestinians.  ,
The deal’s text has n’t yet been made public, but it’s anticipated to be made in the next 24 hours. It still needs to be approved by Congress. If passed, Biden has vowed to mark it.
