LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa— As officials continue to battle over the southeastern border, the wave results are being felt in Central Pennsylvania.
Lancaster County authorities announced that it will now be regarded as a “non-sanctuary” state.
More than three hours of intense open comments were made during the conference.
The end result is that immigrants who immigrate to the Lancaster place today have very different emails.
The Pennsylvania State Director for CASA, Daniel Alvalle, is well-versed in the problems of newcomers.
His relatives immigrated from Puerto Rico and Panama.
” They just want an option and equal opportunity to create a road, sometimes for themselves, but certainly for their kids and for generations to come”, said Alvalle.
Two of the commissioners raised concerns about the potential stress on resources and public health as the result of the adoption of the quality.
Additionally, they emphasized the necessity of observing emigration rules.
Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons, questioned,” Because what other law are you going to decide that you do n’t like and you’re gonna tell your police force not to obey”?
This large inflow of people into our nation will take resources, bankrupt our hospital systems, take our income funds, and distract it from those who now deserve it, according to a community member at the meeting where the resolution was discussed.
The quality received a 2- 1 vote in favor.
It then calls for the reform of a new city legislation that forbids city officials from determining a woman’s immigration status without prior notice from state or federal authorities, not to mention the designation of Lancaster County as “non-sanctuary.”
Alvalle stated,” It instills that worry that they will be asked about their immigration reputation if they have to create a record or if they’re looking for tools or services. But that discourages citizens”.
Therefore, Lancaster County will now be required to comply with ICE confinement orders and restrict the use of its homes for immigrant functions under the new solution.
Some worry about what this means for newcomers.
A community member that spoke out against the resolution commented,” Legality does not equal morality, so just saying that something is the law, does n’t mean that it’s necessarily right”.
CASA claims that they are not done fighting to defend all immigrants and will have in-depth discussions with the commission, the area, and other groups to fully comprehend this quality.
