Trump Suggests Bringing the ‘Country Together’ on 15-Week Abortion Ban

He criticized GOP politicians who oppose the ban on abortions without making any instances, warning that such measures might be politically unpopular.

On March 19, former president Donald Trump made the suggestion that he could help a 15-week federal abortion ban while arguing that there must be exceptions.

” People are agreeing on 15 ( weeks )”, President Trump said in a March 19 interview with” Sid &amp, Friends Podcast”.

” And I’m thinking in terms of that. It’ll come over to someone that’s very fair … Yet hardliners are agreeing, seems to be 15 days, seems to be a quantity that people are agreeing at. But I’ll create that statement at the correct time”, he said.

” We’re going to come up with a time and maybe we can bring the country together on that matter,” he said.

He noted that everyone was happy that the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade brought the power over the matter to the state level.

” All the legal scholars on both sides agree—it’s a state issue, should n’t be a federal issue”, he said. ” It’s a condition problem”.

Abortion Is a Winning Issue for Republicans

The former president criticized Liberals for pushing “abortion in the ninth month, eighth month, eighth month”.

Democrats “have the extreme idea because they’re ready to have pregnancies even after the baby is born.” You’ve seen that with the previous governor of Virginia, where he said even after the baby is born … That’s not appropriate to person”.

Past Virginia governor was the subject of President Trump’s remarks. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, who suggested again in 2019 that a newborn baby could be killed after shipping if the family and doctor agree.

The governor’s office afterward said that Mr. Northam was talking about deeds that doctors would take in case a woman under” dreadful or difficult situations, such as a nonviable pregnancy or in the event of severe fetal anomalies”, went into labor.

In his interview, President Trump stressed the need to include three exceptions to any abortion rule—rape, adultery, and protecting the life of the family. Additionally, he cautioned against passing abortion rules that he felt were very serious.

” Here’s the problem—you have to win elections … And if you do n’t win the elections, you’re going to end up being back where you started on this issue … I’ve never had a problem with the issue and a lot of people have. We’ve lost a lot of votes as a result of that and because certain viewpoints are simply unpractical.

President Trump estimates that” about 80 percentage of the Republicans” help having instances in the rules.

In a Jan. 1, 2023, article on Truth Social, he blamed Republicans with conservative pregnancy ideas for the group’s dismal performance in the midterm elections.

” It was n’t my fault that the Republicans did n’t live up to expectations in the MidTerms. I was 233- 20!”! the former chairman wrote.

” It was the’ pregnancy problem,’ badly handled by many Republicans, particularly those that strongly insisted on No Instances, even in the case of Rape, Incest, or Career of the Mother, that lost large numbers of Electors”, he wrote.
President Trump stated in January of this year that he opposed so-called “heartbeat bills,” which “prevent pregnant women from having an abortion once a fetus ‘ heartbeat is detected.”

” A lot of people… talk five or six weeks, a lot of women do n’t know if they’re pregnant in five or six weeks, “he said”. When people are happy, I want to get something. For 50 years, this has been tearing our nation apart.

    A Key Election Issue

Democrats are betting on the abortion debate to win the 2024 presidential election.

According to President Biden’s campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez,” A vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is a vote to reinstate Roe,” and” a vote for Donald Trump is a vote to ban abortion across the country,” AP reported earlier this year.

President Biden once more brought up the subject in his most recent State of the Union address on March 7.

” In its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court majority wrote the following—and with all due respect, justices —’Women are not without electoral … or political power.’ You’re about to realize just how much you’re right about that, “he said, directly addressing the Supreme Court justices.

” Those who claim to overturn Roe v. Wade have no idea how powerful women are.” However, they learned when the right to a reproductive life was on the ballot. We won in 2022.”

However, some Democrats worry that other issues, like the border crisis, could overwhelm abortion in the upcoming elections.

I’m concerned that the border becomes more significant than the threat to reproductive rights close to metropolitan areas in blue states where reproductive rights are already in question. ” A lawmaker said that,” according to NBC News, during the House Democrats ‘ annual retreat last month.

According to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted last week, “eight months before the presidential election, economic issues and immigration matters more to voters than abortion.”

According to another poll released last month, “voters do not currently view Trump as a threat to abortion rights.”

” Only a slim majority of voters say the outcome of the 2024 presidential election is’ very important’ when it comes to addressing abortion ( 52 percent ), compared with other issues that land at the top like inflation ( 71 percent ), taxes and government spending ( 65 percent ), national security and foreign policy ( 65 percent ), and immigration ( 64 percent ),” the survey said.
