Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill. ), the incumbent in the state’s 12th district, and Democrat J. Bailey, a former state representative, have retained control of the GOP primary. B. Pritzker.
The contest was near. The Associated Press did n’t call it until 10: 14 a. m. on March 20, on the morning after the primary.
Mr. Bailey’s endorsements included support from Rep. Mary Miller ( R- Ill. ), another Republican from the Land of Lincoln. Notably, firebrand Rep. Matt Gaetz ( R- Fla. ), sometimes cast as the heir to former President Donald Trump, threw his weight behind Mr. Bailey ahead of the March 19 primary.
However, Mr. Bost came to Election Day with the most beloved support of today’s Republicans, especially those representing more traditional regions like the 12th—the support of President Trump himself.
Mr. Bost second entered Congress in 2015. He is the chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs.
Roll Call, citing AdImpact, reports that Mr. Bost’s plan has been much better funded than Mr. Bailey’s, garnering$ 1.4 million to only$ 164, 000 for Mr. Bailey.
