According to complaints that Mr. Menendez and his family were paid bribes by three New Jersey traders, the allegations are connected.
Sen. Bob Menendez ( D- N. J. ) Despite continued allegations, he announced on Thursday that he would not run for president in the Democratic primary for his U.S. Senate seats. Nevertheless, he hinted at the possibility of an independent nomination.
” However, the current charges I am facing, of which I am honest, and may prove so, does not allow me to have that sort of dialogue and conversation with social opponents that have already made it the basis of their plan”, Mr. Menendez said in a video posted on YouTube.
Better than that is what New Jerseyans deserve. You deserve to hear from those who want to stand up for you about what they can do for you and your loved ones in the future. So, I did not report for the Democrat major this June. I’m hoping that my conviction will occur this summer, allowing me to run for president in the public vote as an independent Democrat.
Mr. Menendez stated that he was eager to serve New Jerseyans and that he wanted to engage in meaningful discussion and debate with social critics, which he felt was preventing.
The New Jersey senator expressed his disappointment with the charges he has faced over the past year and called on the public to deny view. He is currently facing indictment for the second time in the last ten years.
Believe me, I am disappointed at the false accusations I’m facing, as some of you may have known. All I may ask of you is that you withhold judgment until justice is served,” he said.
Mr. Menendez, who was able to get help in 2018 after he was acquitted of earlier claims in 2017, has maintained his innocence.
If he decides to run as an independent member, Mr. Menendez did had until June 4 to obtain 800 names in order to be on the ballot.  , Now, there are three separate lawmakers who caucus with the Democrat Party.
The announcement comes just before the Democrat registration deadline in New Jersey on March 25 and as some of his Democratic Senate colleagues are being pressured to retire as a result of the allegations he faces.
The allegations relate to claims that Fred Daibes, Wael Hana, and Jose Uribe, three New Jersey entrepreneurs, bribed Mr. Menendez and his family. These money included lease payments, gold plates, and a Mercedes- Benz C- 300 cabriolet.
In exchange, the senator is accused of engaging in behavior that benefits the three men, such as intermediate in a federal investigation and a state criminal case involving a member of Mr. Uribe’s affiliate.
Additionally, Mr. Menendez is accused of aiding an associate in negotiating a deal with a Qatari investment fund and aiding a man in negotiating a beneficial foods documentation deal with Egypt while acting favorably toward the Egyptian government.
According to the prosecution, he is accused of working for the Egyptian government as a foreign agent.
Mr. Menendez, who is 70 years old, was the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s chairman before being arrested last fall. He was forced to step down. He has refrained from resigning from the Congress despite being asked to.
On May 6, his 18 federal counts trial is scheduled to start.
A federal judge recently denied Mr. Menendez’s request for the dismissal of four bribery counts on the grounds of legislative immunity.
Democrats are lining up to replace Mr. Menendez, including , Rep. Andy Kim ( D- N. J. ) and the state’s first lady, Tammy Murphy.
June 4 is the Democratic Party’s primary election for their candidate for Mr. Menendez’s Senate seat.
