Gas Shortage Warning for Southern Australian States

The southern states ‘ gas supply shortages are expected to increase in the future, according to the Australian Energy Market Operator ( AEMO).
The report warns of the possibility of shortages on days with extraordinary peak demand in 2025, tiny supply gaps in 2026, and larger supply gaps in 2028.
Writers note that during the transition to a” net zero emissions potential”, gas will continue to be used by Australians, supporting the energy market.
From now until 2043, according to the Gas Statement of Opportunities ( GSOO ) for the year 2024, Australia will have adequate gas supplies.
The 2024 GSOO continues to forecast risks for shortfalls on extreme peak demand days starting in 2025 and potential for small seasonal supply gaps starting in 2026, primarily in southern Australia, before annual supply gaps that will call for new sources of supply starting in 2028, according to the report ( pdf ).
