Sen. Joe Manchin ( D., W. Va. ) on Thursday reportedly reaffirmed he will not seek reelection, snubbing Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer’s ( D., N. Y. ) suggestion that he do but to prevent Republicans from gaining control of the Senate.
” Hell no. Another six- season sentence below? Are you outrageous”? Manchin said, according to HuffPost writer Igor Bobic. Manchin made the comment after last week saying he was open to the idea of running for the later Senate with an independent in a conversation with Schumer. He later told CNN that he “does not know if anything in Washington, D.C., is 100 percent.”
Manchin, who has been a lawmaker for West Virginia since 2010, initially announced in November that he would not run for president this fall, a move that would likely result in the election of a Republican as the Senate majority leader and may give the Republicans control of the majority in the Senate. Manchin has until Aug. 1 to make his final choice.
” I understand the scenario”, Manchin said on CNN last year. For someone who is passionate about our position, I want my position to be properly represented. So we just have to see what unfolds. Really—after the main … it’ll show you a lot more”.
The West Virginia Democrat added that he would support Adeel Mangi, President Joe Biden’s candidate for the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, in the election for the presidency. Mangi has been accused of belonging to extreme left-wing organizations, including one that has campaigned to defund officers. ” I’m going to be extremely honest with everyone. If my Democratic colleagues and friends ca n’t get one Republican vote, do n’t count on me”, Manchin said a day earlier, adding that” I’m not leaving this place unless I can practice what I preach and I’m preaching, basically bipartisanship. My simplest method of doing it is this.
