GUATEMALA CITY — U. S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Thursday that , a Texas rules giving state officials the power to arrest and arrest migrants , who have entered the country fraudulently is illegal.
In the Guatemalan money, Mayorkas and Guatemala President Bernardo Arévalo held a joint press conference.
” We have a very strong opinion as a matter of law that SB4 ( the Texas law ) is unconstitutional, and we hope and pray that the courts will overturn it with justice,” Mayorkas said.
The state would be able to arrest and arrest people who enter the country illegally, according to a law passed last month. The United States Justice Department has criticized the legislation as a flagrant violation of federal law.
A three- determine section of the 5th U. S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard claims on the Texas rules Wednesday, but did not rule. For the time being, the legislation is still in effect.
