In a text message to the Washington Examiner on Thursday night, Gonzales declared,” I will be voting no tomorrow.
The senator claimed that the so-called “minibus” of six budget expenses did not include any legislation adjustments to address the border crisis, which has resulted in the illegal entry of more than 8 million non-U.S. people since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021.
” Throwing more$ at]the Department of Homeland Security ] is like throwing gasoline on a West Texas fire”, Gonzales said.
Gonzales, a second- term lawmaker whose Texas district runs along 800 miles of the southern border, said his demands were not met by budget negotiators.
” Biden’s failed border agenda has caused too much death and destruction across my district”, Gonzales said in a statement Thursday afternoon. Congress must put its weight down and stop cutting that out. There’s nothing in this package that closes asylum loopholes, ends catch and release, or stops the abuse of paroling authority by the Biden administration. You ca n’t blame me for this one.

After failing to win the majority of votes in the Republican primary election earlier this month, Gonzales will face a runoff election on May 28.
Brandon Herrera, a social media influencer and pro-gun rights advocate, came in second place to Gonzales by more than 20 percentage points.
