The drive to tear up the retailer coalition could close up forcing customers to pay more and give “extreme energy” to the authorities, a top business body has warned.
It comes after the quit- wing Greens proposed a divestiture power bill that would help the American consumer watchdog, and the courts, to create Coles and Woolworths sell their assets if they are found to be weak.
The Greens accused the retailer behemoths of “ruthlessly using their business strength to cut prices while raking in billions of dollars in profits” amidst a price- of- lifestyle crisis.
If the bill passes the Senate on March 27, it may give the judges and competition regulators the authority to” crush the retailer coalition” and “help grip them in”, the Greens argued….
