On Monday, Vice President Kamala Harris welcomed Bernardo Arévalo, the newly elected president of Guatemala, to the White House to laud his efforts to combat fraud and support their efforts to combat migration from Central America.

” Your command can help restore the Guatemalan people’s faith in their organizations, and provide them a sense of trust and opportunity”, Harris said.

The White House reported later on Monday that President Joe Biden and Arévalo had a private meeting afterwards to congratulate him on his inauguration. They discussed great governance, powerful migration administration, the importance of upholding politics and other problems, the White House said.

The Democratic vice president stated that her efforts to address the root causes of migration by enhancing regional economic opportunity have resulted in$ 5.2 billion in private sector commitments.

” The issues, of course, did not occur immediately, and the options will not be achieved overnight”, Harris said. But there has been brief- term improvement, she said.

The Northern Triangle is a region known for its much migration of refugees from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to the United States from Mexico. In the past, successful governments have struggled to control the flow of migrants, and Biden has faced both a charitable and political setback during this year’s vote. Republicans and Democrats in Congress both claim that politicians have n’t taken action to fix the world’s immigration system.

Harris and Arévalo discussed the Biden administration’s usage of consequently- called” healthy freedom offices”, which were set up in Guatemala, Colombia, Costa Rica and Ecuador in the fall, among different immigration matters. The safe mobility agencies are designed to make the application process for refugees in the United States simpler so that migrants can implement wherever they are and avoid paying traffickers to travel north.

Although it was still among the lowest monthly figures in Biden’s president, the number of prosecutions for improperly crossing the U.S. Mexico border increased by 140 to 644. Of those, 23, 216 were Guatemalan.

Arévalo won the presidency in August, defeating the establishment member by a slim ratio, and took office in January. Although he is the son of a past leader and is credited with implementing some of Guatemala’s most important labour laws, his impressive performance in a crowded area was also unexpected.

The politician with a history in education and conflict resolution ignited with a message challenging the nation’s vested interests and resuming its fight against corruption.

” Your vote has energized the American and international communities,” Harris said. ” And despite the challenges that have been posed to Guatemala’s political process, the United States was glad to have with you, Mr. President, following a free and fair election”.

Arévalo thanked Harris and the U. S. for their help.

” I view this as a historical time in relations between our two countries, which share fundamental principles and frequent interests”, Arévalo said.
