A , Norfolk- based soldier serving aboard a battleship died after he was “lost over” while deployed to the , Red Sea, authorities announced Saturday.
Oriola Michael Aregbesola, 34, an aircraft mechanic’s partner aboard the USS Mason, went over Wednesday. The , Department of Defense , identified the dying as a victim of a non- fight related event. It is under inspection.
The , Navy , speech did not specify if the soldier jumped or fell. When asked if the death is a presumed death, a spokeswoman for , U. S.  , Central Command , referred merely to , the Navy’s speech.
Aregbesola was assigned to the” Swamp Foxes” of , Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 74, which is deployed with the USS Mason. The USS Mason is part of the , David D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group. The team is stationed in and around the Red Sea  to hinder anger from Egyptian proxy forces and was deployed from Naval Station Norfolk in mid-October.
Aregbesola, a , Florida , local, joined the , Navy , in , July 2020. He reported to the plane regiment in , December 2020.
According to Cmdr.,” Petty Officer Aregbesola totally embodied the noble character and attentive warrior spirit of the United States Navy Sailor.”  , Eric Kohut, commanding officer of the regiment. His remarkable efficiency both prior to and during deployment extended far beyond plane maintenance; he certainly saw and valued each member of the ship/air team.
He may stay in the hearts of every Swamp Fox and our fellow Swamps and daughters in the IKE Carrier Strike Group. Our thoughts and prayers are with his community.
