Mexican President , Andrés Manuel López Obrador threatened that the “flow” of illegal refugees into the United States” will continue” unless President Joe Biden’s administration agrees to his needs for the U. S. to give billions of dollars to Latin American countries, reduce sanctions on Venezuela, ending the embargo of Cuba, and give work visas to millions of illegal immigrants inside the U. S.
During a subsequent “60 Minutes” event, López Obrador discussed the unlawful immigration issue now facing the United States under the Biden administration. The Mexican president responded,” We do and want to maintain doing it, but we do want for the root causes to be attended to, for them to be really looked at,” when asked by CBS News reporter Sharyn Alfonsi about his country’s ideas to” slow down migration.”
López Obrador claimed that the Biden administration would need to end the U.S. embargo on Cuba, provide$ 20 billion annually, and halt the United States ‘ current rate of illegal immigration.
López Obrador claimed that Mexico was “more mindful” about its own southern border, which is why the number of illegal immigrant bridges decreased between December and January. The leader of Mexico claimed that his leadership” spoke with the presidents of Central America, Venezuela, and Cuba.”

” We asked them for help in curbing the stream of refugees”, he said. ” But, that is a short- phrase solution, not a lengthy- term one”.
The Mexican president reaffirmed that” the flow of workers… did remain” and that it would continue if the Biden administration did not comply with his list of needs.
Alfonsi claimed that López Obrador’s critics have accused him of “diplomatic extortion” by obviating his needs in response to the threat from the Mexican leader.
” I am speaking frankly”, López Obrador told Alfonsi. We must continue to say things the way they are, and I usually express my feelings. I often say what I think”.
