An Arizona college table has taken a hostile stance on parents who are concerned about proposed , education or guidelines that emphasize sex education and transsexuals.
These proposed changes described in a Feb. 26 gathering of the Flagstaff Unified School District include “updating” the language in formal city policies from “boy/girl” to “people”, allowing students to attend sexual education classes designed for the same sex, and updating curriculum to be more “inclusive” of gender- fluid ideology.  ,
Parents, afraid of adjustments they believe perhaps threaten the safety of their children, attended the second Flagstaff school board meeting on March 13 to voice their concerns. ( Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board is the official name of the panel. )
Christine Fredericks, the table leader, promised to “never apologize for being inclusive.”
When family David Skousen suggested inviting more families to the next committee meeting, Fredericks responded:” Take it on”.
Fredericks asked for comment, but she instead gave no justification for speaking to kids as she did.
The Daily Signal even received copies of brochures reportedly posted at the Flagstaff district’s DeMiguel Elementary School to promote a” Brand Change Clinic” on Feb. 12 , for” transgender or gender nonbinary” students of” all years”.
Online search engines indicate that both Flagstaff High School and DeMiguel Elementary School posted the flyer, though Flagstaff school district officials did not verify its authenticity.
And although administrators appear to have taken down the flyer, the Flagstaff district’s hosting service, Peachjar, retained an image matching a screenshot of the flyer sent to The Daily Signal.
The Flagstaff school district is not the first to promote transgender or sexual services to minors without a parent’s consent.  ,
According to a recent investigation by the organization Parents Defending Education, centers in public schools all over the country were providing students with hormonal medication.
The Daily Signal has written about school districts that have policies that forbid their parents from finding out about their gender” transitions.”
When parents emailed Flagstaff School Superintendent Michael Penca about their concerns about the district’s sex and gender policy on March 1, he suggested they contact the board during the two scheduled meetings in March for public feedback.
In a March 2 email to parent Austin Miler, Penca recommended that parents “use these processes, at that time, for providing your input to the Governing Board and the district”.
Counter to Penca’s suggestion, it appears that Fredericks and other members of the school board already have made up their minds, regardless of how many parents voice concerns about their children’s safety. Fredericks claims to be “inclusive”, but many parents believe that her actions communicate the opposite.
The parents, who are the primary caregivers and educators of the children, are the only ones who are involved in making these recommendations and decisions, Kevin Remley, the father of elementary and high school students in the Flagstaff district, told The Daily Signal.
Skousen, who confronted Fredericks at the March 13 board meeting, told The Daily Signal that he was disappointed in the board president’s attitude toward parents. Parents ‘ hesitations over changing the school district’s sex and gender policy are n’t political or extreme, he said:
We also do n’t want to teach any other extreme political or religious subjects, such as “brainwashing prayer in the classroom.” Similar to how they can impart their beliefs in their homes, we can do that in ours. We want to let our children remain innocent and learn topics like math, reading, writing, spelling, science, geography, etc. Not be used as pawns to advance their beliefs and pursue a political agenda.
Another Flagstaff district parent, Liz Carlin, told The Daily Signal, that her family left California in part to protect their children from political activism, which would otherwise take the place of education.
” I think we need to impart kindness and acceptance in ways that do n’t cause confusion in young children,” Carlin said. ” If this continues, I will have to homeschool my children”.
The Flagstaff school system’s board meeting is scheduled for March 26 at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time.
