
As Texas’s state government militarizes the place, deploying hundreds of National Guard troops, and building new facilities along the border, there is still an immigration dispute. In addition, a new federal spending bill signed into law by President Biden increased funding for ICE and CBP, and state and federal judges have been arguing over whether SB4, a fresh Texas state laws, grants local police broad authority to arrest and arrest anyone they believe has entered the country without authorization, is legitimate. In El Paso, the Border Network for Human Rights ‘ founder and CEO Fernando Garca provides more information. Garca claims that the flow of special forces, along with the “show me your papers ” environment created by SB4, is causing more of the daily violence that Latinx people on the U.S. are exposed to everyday.
