New England’s Last Coal-Fired Power Plants to Close Under EPA Renewables Deal

Within the next four decades, New England’s next coal-fired energy crops will completely close, according to family business Granite Shore Power, which made the announcement on March 27.
As part of a deal reached with environmental groups and the Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ), Merrimack Station’s voluntary shutdown will begin in 2028. It was first operational in the 1960s.
Schiller Station in Portsmouth will no longer be operated by Granite Shore Power, according to the business. That train, which has been operating since the 1950s, may be closed by 2025.
The two sites may be repurposed and transitioned into” earliest- of- their- kind” fresh energy facilities, or “renewable energy parks”, as part of the region’s clean energy efforts, the company said….
