Elias Irizarry, who was a&nbsp, Citadel&nbsp, student when he was arrested for being part of the&nbsp, Jan. 6&nbsp, Capitol&nbsp, mob, has filed as a Republican to work against a veteran&nbsp, S. C. House of Representatives&nbsp, representative.

Irizarry, who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor cost in relation to the&nbsp, Jan. 6, 2021, mob, did run in&nbsp, House District 43, which covers many of&nbsp, Chester County&nbsp, and piece of southeastern&nbsp, York County.

    Irizarry, 22, filed soon Wednesday.

He may be running against incumbent&nbsp, Rep. Thomas&nbsp,” Randy” Ligon, R- Chester, a&nbsp, Chester&nbsp, agent, seller and farmer, who filed&nbsp, March 16. Since 2019, Lion has been in business.

” My record speaks for itself in getting conservative results”, Ligon said in a statement. ” I’m convinced our citizens will make a smart decision on&nbsp, June 11. Looking forward to the talk”.

Irizarry could not be reached for comment.

In the Democratic primary in June, Irizarry, Ligon, and any other candidates for that desk will compete against one another.

The Citadel&nbsp, said Thursday that Irizarry is enrolled as a pupil at South Carolina’s military academy.

Irizarry was a rookie at&nbsp, The Citadel&nbsp, on&nbsp, Jan. 6, 2021, when, sporting a purple” Make America Great Afterwards” hat, he fraudulently entered the&nbsp, U. S. Capitol&nbsp, with a crowd of thousands who had broken through barricades and fought with authorities. He was photographed carrying a metallic rod that he had picked up, but unlike many rioters, he did not physically abuse police officials or cause damage to property.

Irizarry was one of the 26 South Carolinians who the FBI has detained for their deeds that morning. Thus far, 19 have pleaded guilty to various infractions. Another was found guilty by a&nbsp, District of Columbia&nbsp, judge. Costs against the remaining six are pending.

The Citadel&nbsp, allowed Irizarry, who had an outstanding history as a pupil leader and was an honors scholar, to continue his studies. He was suspended after&nbsp, October 2022, when he pleaded innocent in&nbsp, Washington&nbsp, before&nbsp, U. S. &nbsp, Judge&nbsp, Tanya Chutkan. &nbsp, The Citadel&nbsp, announced it was suspending him because he had&nbsp, committed” do unbecoming a trainee”.

Irizarry admitted guilt to entering and remaining in a restricted building on a criminal charge.

Chutkan, the provincial determine who will rule over former President Donald Trump’s Jan. 6- related test, sentenced Irizarry to 14 days in jail. According to the federal&nbsp, Bureau of Prisons, Irizarry finished serving his sentence in&nbsp, May 2023.

In judge, Irizarry admitted that he entered the&nbsp, Capitol&nbsp, through a broken window after passing walls and going through landscaping inside. He climbed on monuments and took photographs inside with people. He left the&nbsp, Capitol&nbsp, after 27 days.

Irizarry admitted to making what he called” the worst mistake of my life” and acknowledged that he had also renounced what he called the” crazy insurrectionists” who had attempted to stop the peaceful transfer of power in court.

Last spring, Irizarry&nbsp, got a work in the&nbsp, S. C. House of Representatives&nbsp, working as a website with the&nbsp, House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.

Irizarry was sponsored by state Rep. David O’Neal, a&nbsp, York County&nbsp, Republican and former president of&nbsp, Tega Cay&nbsp, who spent 20 times in the&nbsp, U. S. Army.

” He’s a great person. He made a mistake”, O’Neal told The State. ” And we can all apply forgiveness sometimes, you know, and a second chance, and this person is worth saving. He’s really that great of a kid”.

Larry Barnett, &nbsp, York County Republican Party&nbsp, Chairman, said anyone who has authorized ranking to run for office can do so. Candidates are not required to file with the state or province parties, according to Barnett.

” I am cool with Elias running”, Barnett said.

At one court hearing, &nbsp, Judge Chutkan&nbsp, underscored the seriousness of the&nbsp, Jan. 6&nbsp, insurrection, telling Irizarry that he was part of a “mob ( that ) almost caused the halt of the transfer of power in this country in what’s tantamount to an attempt to overthrow this government”.

Irizarry, the prosecutor continued, “may never had carried a weapons, he may not have stolen everything, he may not have assaulted a police agent, but he’s alleged to have been part of that mob”.

Irizarry had travelled to&nbsp, Washington&nbsp, on&nbsp, Jan. 6&nbsp, with friends to attend former President Trump’s” Stop the Steal” rally and was on a break from&nbsp, The Citadel, according to court records. Trump has made numerous false statements that&nbsp, Democrats&nbsp, cheated him out of success in the&nbsp, November 2020&nbsp, vote. But some 60 claims filed in that election’s fallout failed to find scams, and Trump’s individual Attorney General, &nbsp, William Barr, said there was no scam large enough to have changed election results.

According to the&nbsp, U. S. Department of Justice, more than&nbsp, 1, 355 individuals have been arrested&nbsp, for expenses related to the marching of the&nbsp, Capitol. 486 of those are accused of assaulting police or people, and 127 are accused of injuring officers seriously by using a dangerous weapon. The detention and research into the&nbsp, Capitol&nbsp, breach are continuing.
