Judge John Napper argued on Tuesday that the 2017 divorce filing’s full sealing was unjustifiable.
The Washington Free Beacon requested the judge’s order in January after the newspaper filed a motion to seize Gallego’s divorce papers, which have been kept from the public since he split from his partner, Phoenix governor Kate Gallego.
The two split in 2016, when Kate Gallego was nine months female. While divorce records in Arizona and different states are typically accessible to the public, the Gallegos requested—and a prosecutor agreed—to put the entire situation, yet its presence on the court, under seal.  ,
The judge’s move this week is the second step in reversing that decision. The judge stated that he had examined the document and did not think that much of its content may be kept secret.
Given that Gallego and his family both already hold public office and that Gallego, who is running in one of the most likely hotly contested Senate races of the period, is seeking a promotion, The Free Beacon has argued that the release of the breakup records is in the public’s interest. In November, the Democrat may square off against Republican Kari Lake.  ,
Attorneys for Gallego have fought the release of these documents, arguing that their privacy issues “override” the public interest in clarity and that the Free Beacon seeks just to” seize the courts” in order to “disparage Rep. Gallego’s politicians”.
