Republican Says He’s Received Commitment From Johnson to Hold Ukraine Vote

A required vote on the action to veto could be made by Mr. Johnson to take a vote on such policy.

Rep. Don Bacon ( R- Neb. ) claims that he has received a commitment from Representative Mike Johnson (R-La. ) to voting on Ukraine’s additional aid.

During the 118th Congress, Ukraine has been a recurring problem, with several groups forming along party ranges. Democrats have mostly supported Ukraine, while Republicans have advocated for restricting, auditing, or completely halting further support to the Eastern European country.

These party-line groups have stalled development on aid to both the Ukraine and the US in both chambers of Congress.

However, Mr. Johnson appears to be on the right path as he attempts to finance Ukraine despite the risk of being removed from the candidacy.

Speaking on” Meet the Press” during a March 31 appearance on the Sunday show, Mr. Bacon reported that Mr. Johnson “is committed to making]Ukraine ] the first, the top priority” when lawmakers return to Washington.

Since lawmakers are currently taking their districts ‘ Easter recess, that return wo n’t be available until later in April.

However, Mr. Bacon said,” I have a responsibility for the presenter and the president of the Foreign Affairs Committee that we’re going to place this on the ground and get a vote” when Congress earnings.

According to Mr. Bacon, this money is likely to take the form of a payment, at least in part.

That would be in line with a previous suggestion made by former president Donald Trump, the presumed 2024 Republican candidate.

” WE SHOULD NEVER GIVE MONEY ANYMORE WITHOUT THE HOPE OF A Revenge, And WITHOUT’ Cords ‘ ATTACHED”, President Trump wrote in a February article on Truth Social. ” THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA If Become’ STUPID’ NO LONGER”!

Some Republicans gave favorable responses to this plan, and Mr. Bacon said he anticipates that at least in some cases.

” I think there’ll be segments to this funding that will be a loan, it wo n’t be the whole thing”, Mr. Bacon said.

Mr. Bacon argued that this costs may be written in a way that appeases both chambers and events, noting the shortcomings of previous attempts to finance Ukraine.

” I want to make sure that we have help in the Senate”, Mr. Bacon said. ” I do n’t want to do a ping pong, where we send it back over the Senate, and they do n’t act. This must be a legislature republican solution, therefore.

Rep. Mike Lawler ( R- N. Y. ) Additionally, during a March 31 looks on CNN’s” State of the Union,” confidence was expressed that a vote on a new financing package for Ukraine may be held.

When we return from the Easter recess, he said,” I believe there will be a ballot.”

” Truly, this is critically important for our friends”, Mr. Lawler opined. We are the world’s free world head, and we cannot ignore our obligation to uphold and defend governments around the world.

A political manoeuvre that may force a vote on the policy without Mr. Johnson’s approval has been supported by Mr. Lawler’s support for a discharge petition for a bill requiring funding for the Ukraine.

Mr. Lawler demurred when pressed to explain his reasons for believing there would be like a ballot, only reiterating,” I am convinced that]Johnson ] is going to send a bill to the ground and that we will have a ballot. He comprehends our obligation.

    Action to Depart

Hanging over all of this is the ever-present danger that Mr. Johnson might lose the candidacy.

Following the passage of a$ 1.2 trillion funding bill, which was rammed through Congress before the break, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene ( R- Ga. ) introduced a motion to vacate the speakership against Mr. Johnson.

She declined to make the estimate affluent, which would have forced a ballot. Otherwise, she’s said that the action is a “pink pass” and a reminder to Mr. Johnson—but has not ruled out forcing a ballot later on.

But, Ms. Greene has spoken out against money Ukraine, and any attempt by Mr. Johnson to pass legislation could lead to a forced ballot on the action to veto.

This was the same maneuver used by Rep. Matt Gaetz ( R- Fla. ) against then- Speaker Kevin McCarthy ( R- Calif. ) in October, which ended in Mr. McCarthy’s ouster.

However, some lawmakers who helped remove Mr. McCarthy have expressed mistrust of doing the same to Mr. Johnson, saying it may stop in Democrats claiming the author’s hand.

Mr. Lawler addressed the threat, calling it “idiotic” and saying it would n’t help advance Ms. Greene’s agenda.

There have also been some evidence that Democrats might be able to keep Mr. Johnson’s position.

Rep. Jim Clyburn ( D- S. C. ) spoke about the issue during his own appearance on” Meet the Press” the same day.

He emphasized that he was” 100 percent” in favor of Democratic administration, but said he would support Mr. Johnson if House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N. ) liased him. Y. ).

So, it’s unclear whether Ms. Greene’s strategy would also function.

However, it’s possible that Congress will continue to be engulfed by Ms. Greene’s measure as they make their way back to Capitol Hill afterward in April.
