Israel , called off a many- discussed political journey to the , U. S.  , after the , United Nations , passed a resolution , calling for a two- year cease- fire in , Gaza , on Monday.
The , U. S.  , had previously , vetoed three , U. N. Security Council , resolutions , calling for a stop- fire. But on Monday, it merely abstained, allowing the solution to go 14- 0.
Prior to the ballot, Israeli Prime Minister , Benjamin Netanyahu , vowed that if the , U. S.  , did not reject the resolution, he had  , withdraw a anticipated trip , by ministers , Tzachi Hanegbi , and , Ron Dermer , to , Washington, D. C.  , After the decision passed, he followed through.
The decision calls for a begin- flames during the Muslim month of , Ramadan, which ends , April 9. It even calls for the , launch of the remaining 134 Jewish hostages , held in , Gaza, but the two requirements are not linked.
” The reason we abstained is because this resolution text did not condemn Hamas” , , White House , national security spokesman , John Kirby , said.
While the global community has generally condemned Israel’s unpleasant in , Gaza, the , U. S.  , has spent almost six weeks shielding its alliance on the political level. It previously , locked down begin- fire resolutions , on , Oct. 18,  , Dec. 8 , and , Feb. 20.
The , U. S.  , has even proposed two stop- fireplace resolutions of its own, including one past month. Both those , proposals were vetoed by , China , and , Russia, which called them very poor.
” The current draft is unequivocal and correct in its direction demanding an immediate cease- fire, while the previous one was evasive and ambiguous” , , Chinese ambassador to the , U. N.  , Zhang Jun , said after Monday’s vote.
More than , 32, 000 Palestinians in , Gaza , have been killed in the battle. According to the state’s health department, more than two- quarters of the deceased are women and children.
Netanyahu has previously stated that he wo n’t give a damn what the international community think. In January,  , South Africa , filed a circumstance with the , International Court of Justice , alleging that , Israel , was committing murder in , Gaza.
” No one will stop us, not , The Hague, no the axis of evil and not someone else”, Netanyahu said in reply.
U. S. Israeli relationships have  , deteriorated throughout the conflict, as , President Biden , has faced growing pressure to decrease the Jewish rude amid the skyrocketing Arab death toll. Israeli military officials were supposed to announce plans for an attack on the city of Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians have sought refuge from the conflict, but the journey was canceled.
