‘ Marjorie’s a companion. She’s very upset about, for instance, the last budget charges. Imagine what? But am I,’ said Mr. Johnson.
House Speaker Mike Johnson ( R- La. ) he claimed he had text messages exchanged with Georgia’s Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on March 31 and that he planned to meet with Ms. Greene to talk about investing and measures.
At the time, the lawmaker declined to make the determine affluent, which would have forced a vote. Rather, she said that the action was a “pink pass” and a reminder to the House speech, but she has not ruled out forcing a ballot later. According to Ms. Greene, passing the spending offer was” a betrayal of the Democratic voters” and” a deception of the American people.”
In the meeting, Mr. Johnson told host Trey Gowdy that he understood Ms. Greene’s anger, but with a very small GOP majority in the House, maybe the Republicans could not get the best costs.
” Marjorie’s a friend. She’s very frustrated about, for example, the last appropriations bills. Guess what? So am I”, Mr. Johnson said.
If we could draft these laws differently, you, I, and Marjorie would draft them, not the same as they would. But with the smallest margin in U. S. history, we’re sometimes going to get legislation that we do n’t like”, he continued.
” We were successful in getting a lot of the terrible stuff out, but a few of them made it through, and that’s what Marjorie is upset about, and I am too. However, I want to discuss how to reform the current budgeting and spending process.
Ms. Greene’s move was the same maneuver used by Rep. Matt Gaetz ( R- Fla. ) against then- Speaker Kevin McCarthy ( R- Calif. ) in October, which ended in Mr. McCarthy’s removal from speakership.
Mr. Gaetz told reporters last month that he did not want to see Mr. Johnson go, saying,” If we vacate this speaker, we’ll end up with a Democrat speaker”.
Rep. Tim Burchett ( R- Tenn. ) agreed. In response to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N), he said,” If we were to kick him out, you might as well just give the gavel to Hakeem.” Y. ).
During the Fox News interview, Mr. Johnson stressed that Ms. Greene’s action is a distraction from the GOP’s goal. All of my other Republican colleagues, in my opinion, see this as a diversion from our mission. Again, the mission is to save the republic. And the only way we can do that is if we grow the House majority, win the Senate, and win the White House. So we do n’t need any dissension right now”, he said.
Ukraine Bill Might Risk Johnson’s Speakership
In another move, Rep. Don Bacon ( R- Neb. ) claims that Mr. Johnson has compelled him to hold a vote on additional funding for Ukraine.
However, Ms. Greene has spoken out against funding Ukraine, and any attempt by Mr. Johnson to pass such legislation could result in forced vetoes.
” We may have a standoff with the speaker very likely after this Ukraine bill. I hope the speaker prevails”, Mr. Bacon said. ” He’s doing the right thing. It’s in our national security interest that Ukraine remain independent”.
