A law that would allow the government to shut down international sources, particularly Al Jazeera, was passed earlier in the day by the Israeli parliament.
When asked about the innovative rules during Monday’s media briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean- Pierre said that President Joe Biden does not help it.
” We’ve seen the information, and certainly, I’m going to speak to Israel for what they may or may not be considering, but if it is accurate, if it is true, a move like this is concerning”, she told reporters. ” We firmly believe in the press’s flexibility. It is critical. The United States supports the thoroughly essential job editors do all over the world.
” That includes those who are reporting on the Gaza fight,” Jean-Pierre continued. ” We believe that job is essential. The freedom of the press is essential, and if those reports are true, it is concerning to us”.
After the law was passed, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly said he would “act soon” to stop Al Jazeera from broadcasting inside Israel. He described it as a “terrorist channel.”
