    CBP: 387K in undeclared currency seized at Hidalgo port of entry

    HIDALGO, Texas ( ValleyCentral )— One man was arrested for hiding a” significant amount” of unreported currency during a port of entry inspection, the U. S. Customs and Border Protection announced.

    Alexis Barragan Valle, 30, of Mexico, was detained on Monday at the Hidalgo International Bridge after being detained for allegedly concealing unidentified American money while entering the country.

    Barragan Valle claimed to be crossing the Hidalgo International Bridge to get from McAllen to Reynosa after being referred for a minute examination by a CBP official.

    CBP officers discovered bundles of 20, 50 and 100 U. S. money payments totaling to$ 387, 000 concealed within washing detergent containers within Barragan Valle’s vehicle.

    North Texas gentleman wanted for child sexual abuse, arrested at Progreso gate

    It is a federal offense to not report to a CBP officer any money or money over$ 10,000 upon entering or leaving the United States, according to a press release from CBP.

    Homeland Security Investigations detained Barragan Valle and launched a criminal research into the event. The$ 387, 000 was seized by CBP.

    According to national data, Barragan Valle made his first court appearance on Tuesday and has a confinement hearing scheduled for Friday.
