The people charged for their roles in the , dying of Officer Jonathan Diller , have been indicted, prosecutors said Monday.
Guy Rivera, 34, was indicted for the first- degree , crime of Diller , and for earliest- level attempted crime for trying to fire his weapon at an NYPD lieutenant at the Far Rockaway scene next week.
Lindy Jones, 41, was behind the vehicle of the 2016 Kia Soul when Diller, who was subsequently promoted to the rank of inspector, and Sgt. On March 25, Sasha Rosen attempted to pull him over on Mott Avenue near Smith Place.
According to the prosecution, Diller and Rosen frequently requested Rivera to slide down the windows before opening the car door.
When they opened the door, Rivera pulled out a gun and shot Diller in the abdomen. The man finally pointed his gun at Rosen and tried to pull the trigger, but the loaded firearm was jammed, they added.
Diller afterward died at Jamaica Hospital and was  , laid to rest , on Saturday.
Jones was even charged with a legal ownership of a tool for the second gun discovered in the car on Monday.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a speech,” The killing of a New York City police officer strikes at the heart of this area and rattles any sense of security in a civilised society.”
Detective Jonathan Diller, a devoted agent, father, father, and child who lost his life while performing his duty to the community and function, was the subject of a number of misdemeanor charges brought against these accused by the grand jury.
According to prosecutors, Rivera may spend up to 15 years in prison without the possibility of pardon, and Jones may provide an additional 15 years for an ongoing and related weapons charge starting in April 2023.
