According to the U. S. Geological Survey, the earthquake’s center was located in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, just 40 kilometers north of New York City. The disaster started at around 10:23 a.m. and was felt as far ahead as Maine and Washington, D.C., according to CBS News.
