Actor and wrestling superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson said he won’t be endorsing President Joe Biden this year despite endorsing him in 2020.
Johnson, who is preparing for this weekend’s Wrestlemania 40 in Philadelphia, told Fox News’s Fox and Friends First he regretted using his celebrity influence in 2020. He was not alone in endorsing Biden as a celebrity, joining the voices of Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Cher, among others.
“Am I happy with the state of America right now? Well, that answer’s no,” Johnson said. “Do I believe we’re going to get better? I believe in that. I’m an optimistic guy, and I believe we can get better.”
Few celebrities have endorsed Biden so far this election cycle. However, writer and actress Mindy Kaling, singer and actor Ben Platt, and singer Lizzo gave their endorsements by appearing at Biden’s $25 million fundraising event in New York last week.
“The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was one I thought was the best decision for me at that time. And I thought back then, when we talk about, hey, you know, I’m in this position where I have some influence and it’s my job then — I felt like that then it’s my job — now to exercise my influence and share with this, this is who I’m going to endorse,” Johnson said. “Am I going to do that again this year? That answer’s no.”

Last year, Johnson said a political party approached him to ask that he run for president in 2024. While the former wrestler said he was “honored” to have the opportunity, he said, “That’s never been my goal.”
Johnson is fresh off the heels of his autobiographical comedy series Young Rock, which ended last year after three seasons on NBC. He has most recently been hosting several World Wrestling Entertainment events.
