ANALYSIS: Black visit to ban Florida over DEI guidelines falls flat

According to a College Fix analysis that found at least 35 of the top-ranked black student athletes in basketball and football who recently signed with universities in the Sunshine State, black athletes do n’t appear to have any interest in supporting the NAACP’s boycott of Florida due to its Republican-led policies.

The NAACP urges all existing and potential college students to reconsider their choices to enroll and thrive at a largely white establishment in Florida, according to the March 11 letter.

” This is not about politics. It’s about the safety of our society, the development of our society, and most of all, it’s about your knowledge, and your potential”, stated the text stated, also addressed to NCAA President Charlie Baker.

Florida and the governor were both criticized in the text. Ron DeSantis for eliminating variety, equity, and inclusion wasting at state colleges and other activities.

” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made no effort to suppress his administration’s weakening of Black America”, the NAACP wrote. DeSantis has waged battle on Black America, ranging from bigoted voting laws to eroding reproductive freedoms and making attempts to modify Black record.

” Then, as a result of his government’s anti- Black ideals, all condition- supported universities in Florida may be forced to destroy their diversity, equity, and inclusion programs”, the NAACP wrote.

According to a College Fix examination, the NAACP’s painted image has certainly influenced athletes in the last month.

The Fix identified 35 of the best- ranked dark student players in basketball and football, two great report sports, who have signed with Florida universities.

The Fix requested opinion after sharing this record with the NAACP. In the last three months, the organization has never responded to two emails sent to it. On April 4, The Fix emailed Press Secretary Alicia Mercedes and Chyna Fields, asking if anyone had decommitted. neither internet responded.

Jalil Bethea, who signed with the University of Miami, is the sixth-best person in the course of 2024, according to ESPN.

He’ll get joined next year by Austin Swartz, the 43rd best player. Two of the top ten soccer people, both black, will be transferring to the University of Florida next month.

According to a news search conducted regarding “decommits,” there is no evidence that black athletes are leaving Florida universities as a result of the NAACP’s desire for protest.

The ban could also be dangerous for Florida Agricultural &amp, Mechanical University, a previously black school. FAMU went 12- 1 next year in sports.

” The University has no comment”, official Andrew Merritt told The Fix via internet.

Rather, it is unclear where the best players should go; for instance, many of the top-ranked football teams are in red states with DEI restrictions related to those on the field. These include the University of Georgia, the University of Texas, and the University of Alabama.

The NAACP even issued a” go consulting” for Florida, warning black Americans not to go there, and if they do, to be careful.

” Please be advised that Florida is explicitly angry toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ people”, the NAACP stated in May 2023. Please take into account before traveling to Florida that the State of Florida undercuts and marginalizes the efforts and problems faced by African Americans and other immigrants.

Russell, the president, appears to still live in Tampa, almost a year after his business issued the notice. His X profile still states that he resides in Tampa.

Fields and Mercedes, the media relations reps for the NAACP, also did not answer a question on April 4 about Russell’s residency and any plans to leave Florida.
