SAN DIEGO ( Border Report ) — Wednesday’s earthquake in Taiwan is disrupting the manufacturing of semiconductors at several plants in Tijuana.

Creation on the other side of the Pacific Ocean in Tijuana was halted by a number of Taiwanese businesses as a protection after the earthquake.

These businesses create semiconductors that regulate and control the electric current flow in electronic devices and technology.

Carlos Jaramillo Silva, chairman of Tijuana’s Business Council, said none of the features in Taiwan were destroyed, yet, it’s a safety procedure to block lines of function.

According to him,” This indicates that the distribution of semiconductors to some companies will be delayed,” adding that this could cause problems for manufacturers, manufacturers of medical devices, and builders of computer equipment.

Although it’s too early to predict how much the delay for semiconductors will affect business, Jaramillo Silva said it’s an opportunity for some businesses to reconsider their rely on Asiatic products and perhaps turn to North American businesses instead of relying on those based in Asia.

” The United States and Mexico are increasing production of semiconductors, particularly in Arizona and Baja California, and we have to create more flowers capable of making these materials”, he said.
