On Friday’s spread of “CNN NewsNight”, Rep. Josh Gottheimer ( D- NJ) said that heating aid to Israel may simply “further enable Hamas”.
According to host Jim Sciutto,” Once you make a sensible argument that Hamas wants to pull these negotiations out because they like to see Israel isolated and the suffering continue it,”
Gottheimer responded,” Of training, yeah. I think it’s a really significant place”.
Gottheimer added,” I think all that heating assistance does is, to your place, you said a moment ago, is enable Hamas and further strengthen Hamas. … And that just weakens the chance for peace, in my opinion. The key is making sure we get all back on the table. The leader, sending letters to the Qataris and the Egyptians, urging quicker activity, urging them to lean on Hamas, of course, the president, clearly, urging Prime Minister Netanyahu to be at the table and make sure that they take real action. And I think that’s the key role that we play here, is making sure we get everyone at the table, get to this temporary pause, and, as you point out, to make sure, and I think it’s the right thing, you’ve got to hold all the parties accountable, but do so in a way that does n’t abandon our key ally in favor of a foreign terrorist organization. And that, and let’s not forget about that and bringing these Americans house.
