In a pay to stop Chicago officials from using workers, the mayor of the ultra-liberal, near-northwestern suburb of Evanston wants to apply for a portion of a$ 20 million county offer to convert an abandoned office building into a new immigrant house.
Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss ( D)  , announced his intention to apply to Cook County’s recently created$ 100 million- dollar “disaster response and recovery” fund, of which$ 20 million is set aside for migrants, to help him rehab an empty office building near Church Street and Oak Avenue. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Biss wants to convert the former structure into a new immigrant move middle and shelter for more than 60 illegal border crossings.
In November of this year, the city of Chicago started the county fund to motivate suburbs to move in and grant their jurisdictions to the immigrant housing industry, which is causing the city to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes.
Biss used his plan to apply for some funding to the city of Evanston to persuade them to publicly support the project in order to win their support for bringing workers into the suburbs.
This may be advantageous to the City on the one hand because more people migrate for weather reasons or for other reasons, according to a note on the plan. On the other hand, it might put a lot of strain on the town.
Biss appears to want to serve as a lighthouse for left-wingers who lobby the cities to join the fight against illegal immigration. Much of the region is still silent about the plan. Since November, the’disaster reaction and recovery ‘ account has been available, but some suburbs have stepped up to make money off of it for illegals.
The Evanston strategy is also light on specifics, nevertheless. Although the memo suggested it might cost$ 2 million annually, the exact costs would be unknown for a private organization to run this eventual shelter. On top of that, the expenses of adding a fire- reduction technique, rain and bathrooms, sleeping areas, and another upgrades to the building are also in question. There is no telling how much of that will be taken care of by the county’s funds or how much did drop on the taxpayers of Evanston, which would naturally variety in the millions.
The entire project does not seem to be all that effective in reducing Chicago’s burden on caring for fugitives because only about 60 or 65 immigrants will been cared for when this service opens.
Evanston plan consultant Ali Leipsiger admitted,” It breaks my heart that it feels like a drop in the bucket.” However, there are also 60 people who require housing.
Given that Evanston is a very progressive neighborhood, it seems possible that, despite the costs, it may come as a result if Mayor Biss wants this as a political bird in his helmet.
The town, which is home to Northwestern University, has pushed significantly- left principles before. Only a few years back, Evanston became the first U. S. town to complete “reparations” for dark people.
Moreover, again in 2013, the town became one of the couple to adopt a therefore- called “assault weapons ban”.
The left-wing town council recently submitted a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Israel, which led to an ethics complaint against the state’s Equity and Empowerment Commission.
