Newsom and California Democrats blasted for ‘gimmicky’ $17 billion fix for massive budget deficit

In an effort to close a$ 73 billion deficit by June, California’s Democratic lawmakers agreed on Friday to reduce the deficit by$ 17.3 billion through spending cuts, delays, and deferrals.

Democratic lawmakers have criticized the action as “gimmicky” and attributed Newsom to mismanagement of state resources.

” This most recent offer that he’s touting is all dependant on budget gadgets, reason shifts and delay, which, when you look at the numbers, it’s plainly not enough”, Vince Fong, Assembly vice president of the Budget Committee, told Fox News Digital. ” We have a conservation trouble. California has a difficulty with overeating, and nothing the government is working on addresses that.

The plan is to cut$ 3.6 billion in primarily one- time funding for schools, welfare, and climate programs, and it is delaying$ 5.2 billion in programs such as public transit and facilities for preschools. Additionally, the agreement permits Newsom to freeze more one-time funding that was included in the budget over the past three years.

Just two years ago, Newsom signed a$ 301 billion budget with a$ 97 billion surplus. The budget was almost triple what it was for the past fiscal year, with billions of dollars being allocated for climate change activities, poverty, and training. In January, Newsom predicted a gap was$ 37.9 billion, but by February, the Parliamentary Analyst’s Office had predicted it was more than twice.

Fong told the outlet that she had been telling the government about the governor’s ongoing budget crisis because the budget the governor is pushing is becoming more and more unsustainable.

The state has the nation’s highest unemployment rate, and employment is expected to grow little slower in 2023 than expected. Additionally, the state is experiencing a significant population migration, with many people and organizations moving to state with lower taxes. Between January 2020 and July 2022, the state lost more than half a million people, with 700, 000 more people moving in than inhabitants leaving.

Republican state representative Kevin Kiley apparently pointed out that the position continues to pay for the care of illegal immigrants as the state struggles to pay the mounting costs.

” We’re the only state that’s saying we’re gonna give every single person in this position that’s ok illegally free tax money”, Kiley said. California serves as a good example of what to avoid when managing a country’s finances, duty system, and spending.
