Overturning of Roe Prompts Shift Toward Traditional Family Values

An unexpected but interesting outcome of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has been a substantial increases in America’s “hookup” society.

According to the 13th annual review of 5, 000 tunes by Match Group, an internet and technology firm that claims it operates the largest number of global matching programs, 78 % of surveyed songs indicated that the lack of national abortion protections affected their gender and dating life in the first year after the higher court overturned the high court’s overturning of easy abortion access.

This year’s Match Group survey showed a marked increase, to 87 %, in this change in sex and dating patterns. In fact, 1 in 10 people who responded to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson in June 2022 decided to stop having any sexual activity, while 1 in 10 said they had less sex overall and less sex casually. &nbsp,

Moreover, USA Today&nbsp, reported that sex therapists say that since the overruling of Roe v. Wade, anxiety over premarital and extramarital sex has soared, causing their clients to reconsider sex, dating, and relationships.

Thus, the Match Work study provides insight into how secularists have begun to understand how the sexual liberation and ease of access to abortion have led to a culture of insecurity about stable intimate relationships, an intimacy confusion that effectively threw intimate sexual behavior from emotional bonding.

The 1960s and 1970s witnessed an incredible liberalization of our culture’s sexual mores. This rise in sexual activity, which was largely attributed to the ease of access to abortion, also had the impact of a rise in sexually transmitted diseases. &nbsp,

According to a 2003 study measuring abortion on demand’s effect on sexual behavior, “legalizing abortion provided extra incentives to engage in risky sexual behavior”.

The study’s authors claimed that there was a” causal relationship” between sexually transmitted diseases and abortion. They came to the conclusion that legalizing abortion resulted in an increase of” about one-fourth of the average disease incidence” as measured by the rise in cases of gonorrhea and syphilis.

Some states had legalized abortion in 1969 and 1970, and the Supreme Court‘s Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 provided a green light to such legislative action. Premarital and extramarital affairs no longer carried the stigma of social or moral opprobrium, as they were glamorized by the media and celebrities. &nbsp,

The ubiquitous use of sex in advertising, movies, television, and fashion—sex as entertainment, as economic incentive, as a substitute for thought, for communication, for edification—gave public blessing to the unashamed use of sex as a crass commodity of self- gratification. &nbsp,

Sexual satisfaction gained value above physical and emotional well-being. The latter was generally neglected as a result of the pursuit of the first.

The emergence of hookup culture ( also referred to as “non- relationship sex”, “recreational sex”, “friends with benefits”,” no- strings- attached relationships”, “one- night stands”, and” sex without dating” ) together with the right to abort a baby ( thus obviating the fear of an unwanted pregnancy ) led to widespread sexual activity uncoupled from relationships.

Not because they are right, but because they are seen as “natural,” “normal,” and something everyone else does, and because the existence of this phenomenon alone was likely sufficient to encourage the acceptance of adultery and sexual promiscuity.

The Match Group survey found that at least 10 % of those surveyed are still seeking sex outside of marriage following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Moreover, 18 % of those seeking sex outside marriage say they have become more adamant about using condoms.

The survey did n’t address a crucial issue: how traditional religious beliefs affect sexual activity, despite the fact that it is interesting to consider how Roe v. Wade’s overriding affects America’s sexual practices.

However, the Match Group study provides statistics showing how significant traditional families are to the majority of the singles surveyed. Fully 79 % of this group (83 % for Generation Z and millennials ) say they believe they can experience life- long marriage. And 57 % of people said they wanted a spouse who wanted kids. &nbsp,

A higher percentage of religious-minded people maintain their celibacy before marriage than those who identify as observant in their faith.

The Abrahamic faith traditions, also known as the Judeo-Christian worldview and the Noahide Laws, have passed down the idea of marriage and families based on the universal and enduring values created by God thousands of years ago ( Genesis 1: 28, 2: 18, 2: 24 ). According to the Bible, marriage is the only way for one to express their sexuality.

According to a recent Pew Research Report, 80 % of American adults think that their influence is declining. However, the findings presented above support the idea that traditional religious family values are promoting marriage and romantic union while undermining our culture’s prevailing narrative encouraging sexual liberation.

After all, according to the same Pew study, 57 percent of respondents said they think the presence of religion in our culture is a” good thing.”

Our religious brethren are steadfast about disciplining and channeling sexual impulses, even though social trends may change, in part because abortion is legal on demand. These traditional religious values encourage healthy, committed relationships that in turn strengthen and encourage robust families, an essential and basic principle underlying Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

A person’s body and soul are not possessions to abuse, harm, or destroy. In order for humanity to imitate God, Leviticus 19: 1 commands us to “be holy,” a line that has important ethical and moral implications for humanity.

By engaging in hookup culture, we effectively defile our relationship with the divine. Unmoored from a committed and loving marital relationship, sex, dating, and relationships are dramatically affected.

Unchecked sex drive and unrestricted access to abortion harm both the person and the society in which they reside. &nbsp, &nbsp,
