AUSTIN ( KXAN )— Following a meeting Tuesday, Texas A&, M Forest Service awarded 74 grants, totaling approximately$ 13 million to the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.
The Texas remote volunteer fire department recipients will receive offer funding to purchase items like dried hydrants, fire and rescue gear, personal protective equipment, and training aids, according to the forest service.
According to a discharge, the ultimate financing meet for fiscal time 2024 is expected to occur Aug. 14.
The company said the support system, which launched in 2001, provided resources to remote VFDs for:
- fire vehicles
- fire/rescue technology
- safe apparel
- clean extinguishers
- fire education
The program has given Texas ‘ volunteer fire departments more than$ 350 million since its inception, including an additional$ 15 million to rural VFDs in October 2023. The Texas Legislature has allocated roughly$ 22 million to Texas A& and M Forest Service for the macroeconomic time 2024 to provide remote VFDs, according to the forest service.
