The Republican senator has been charged with violating the campaign financing rules by two advocacy groups, and two of them have requested an analysis.
U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas ) was sued by two advocacy groups on Tuesday for receiving advertising revenue from his podcast to a political action committee to support his 2024 reelection campaign.
The complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission ( FEC ) alleges that Mr. Cruz may have ordered iHeartMedia to send more than$ 630, 000 to the Truth and Courage PAC, exceeding the$ 5, 000 threshold for officeholders to solicit for a Super PAC.
According to the FEC problem,” There is reason to believe Cruz has violated national campaign finance laws that prohibit federal candidates and officeholders from soliciting or directing” sweet money” in connection with his 2024 election efforts, including money from corporations, which are absolutely prohibited from contributing to candidates,” according to the FEC complaint.
The problem, filed by the Campaign Legal Center and End Citizens United, calls the FEC to execute a proper investigation into five obligations from iHeart Media Management Services, Inc., a company of iHeartMedia, to the Truth and Courage PAC. The dates are from March 1, 2023.
On the Truth and Courage PAC site, there is no contact information provided.
The issue further states that Mr. Cruz’s audio,” Verdict with Ted Cruz”, is funded, marketed, and distributed by iHeartMedia. But, the terms of the agreement are never publicly available.
Mr. Cruz’s plan company did not immediately respond to The Epoch Times ‘ ask for opinions.
Mr. Cruz claimed that he does not get paid to host the audio for the San Antonio-based business.
End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller claims “it’s evident” that the payment from iHeart should be investigated.
Campaign Legal Center filed an ethics complaint against the lawmaker in 2022 after iHeartMedia picked up his radio. They claimed that the business broke the law prohibiting activists from giving presents to lawmakers.
