Russian anti-war advocate Aleksandr Demidenko, who assisted hundreds of Russian refugees in the Belgorod area in their return to Ukraine, passed away last week in custody, his family was informed on April 8.
The 61- yr- old campaigner, who boldly protested Russia’s war of Ukraine, was arrested in October.
He was first given a 10-day prison sentence for consuming alcohol in public.
Eventually, Demidenko’s house was found with an old bomb, two casings for a mine and other grenades, all made during World War II, and he was accused of possessing illegal weapons.
