Two Republicans Help Democrats Block Protections for Girls’ Sports in Nebraska

In Nebraska, two Republicans joined Democrats in opposing regulations that would have prohibited transgender players from competing in female ‘ activities.

A filibuster on Friday in Nebraska stifled student athletes from playing sports team for the other sex, as well as using bag rooms and bedrooms for the other sex, according to a report from Nebraska Public Media.

After four hours of debate, 31&nbsp, state senators voted for the legislation ( LB575 ), but the bill needed&nbsp, 33 votes in order to end the&nbsp, filibuster.

Oddly, two Nebraska state senators&nbsp, who initially cosponsored LB575, state Sen. Merv Riepe ( R- District 12 ) and state Sen. Tom Brandt ( R- District 32 ), did not vote.

Riepe claimed the Nebraska School Activities Association ( NSAA ) policy&nbsp, is sufficient, while Brandt reportedly questioned if the legislation was enforceable.

The lead sponsor of LB575, Nebraska state senator Kathleen Kauth (R-District 31 ), said,” We need to pass these protections into law so that girls are not forced to compete against boys and girls.

Nebraska position Sen. Megan Hunt ( I- District 8 ), however, argued that the policy protecting women ‘ activities is simply an expression of “discrimination” and “hate”, and called Kauth a “bigot”.

” The level of LB575 is discrimination”, Hunt said. The whole place is” the bias, the love, and the hatred.” It is not about preserving girls. It’s not about keeping people out of harm’s approach”.

” It’s about the risk and the power of the mind of a narcissist: Senator Kathleen Kauth”, Hunt added.

According to Kauth, the legislation does n’t prevent people from competing in sports, saying that transgender people still have the same opportunity to compete as everyone else but they must do so in the same conditions as everyone else as members of their biological sex.

Nebraska state Sen. Dave Murman ( R- District&nbsp, 38 ) said the bill, also known as&nbsp, the Sports and Spaces Act, was a reflection of public sentiment, citing recent poll results.

According to the Gallup 2023 poll, 70 % of Americans believe transgender athletes should only be able to compete on sports teams that match the genders they were born to be on, Murman said. This figure was also 8 % higher than when the poll was conducted in 2021.

” So the action to protect children’s activities is not only widely supported, but the help is growing”, Murman added.

Nebraska state Sen. Anna Wishart ( D- District 27 ), meanwhile, argued the legislation applied to very few people, saying,” We are talking about&nbsp, a population of people that is 1 percent or less in our state who are transgender. And fewer than a quarter of those people participate in K-12 activities.

However, according to a report from Breitbart News, studies strongly suggest that the flow of transsexual propaganda being shown to children has led to a “dramatic boost in children and young adults” claiming to be of the same sex.

According to the Movement Advancement Project, in 24 states, rules prohibit trans kids from playing sports that are not in line with their biological gender.
