New Mexico on cartels’ radar as Texas cracks down on migration, GOP lawmakers say

Democratic state senators urge the government to convene a Special Session to address border security issues.

Some Republican state lawmakers from New Mexico have come back from the border with needs for the government to address the “escalating crisis,” claiming that Texas ‘ crackdown on immigration has forced them to their condition.

In a text to the Democrat Governor. The 13 legislators, including Michele Lujan Grisham, pleaded with her to call a special program to secure the southern border.

Using state resources and funding to improve monitoring and deploying the National Guard are among the requirements.

The email stated that “many of us have traveled to the frontier and witnessed firsthand the effects of this crisis on our state and local communities.” ” The unchecked flow of illegal immigration is compromising our national security and exposing our components to heightened legal action, including human trafficking, drug smuggling, aggressive crime, and damage to personal property. The condition is becoming completely unmanageable because of this, which has put a lot of strain on local solutions.

The lawmakers provided data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection that indicates a rise in migrant fights every year since President Joe Biden took office. The statistics says migrant encounters rose from 125, 628 in Governmental Time 2021 to 170, 846 in FY23 in New Mexico.

The full New Mexico border with Mexico is part of the Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector, which stretches from the New Mexico- Arizona condition lines to the top of Husdspedth County, Texas, and includes all of El Paso County, Texas. CBP information for the El Paso Sector shows 225, 565 improper bridges between ports of entry in Fiscal Year 2023, which ended on Sept. 30, 2023. Border agents have encountered 119, 905 workers so far this fiscal year in the El Paso Sector.

The senators predict that express actions will surpass those of last year.

” Given the recent assault by Texas on illegal bridges, the organizations are now seeking alternative routes, and New Mexico is on their radar”, the lawmakers wrote.

The email was sent following a recent visit by state senators, according to a media release. Steven McCutcheon and Crystal Diamond Brantley travel to Luna County’s U.S. Mexico borders. The lawmakers claimed to have written to Alejandro Mayorkas, head of the Department of Homeland Security, in a separate letter requesting governmental action.

” We may ignore the fact that our southern border is experiencing an extraordinary public health problems,” said McCutcheon, who represents Carlsbad in Sante Fe. As evidenced by the subsequent rise of fentanyl trafficking and human trafficking plaguing our communities, the Biden administration and the government have allowed New Mexico to become a hall for unlawful activity. My constituents want action, and I urge the government to quit playing politics and set border security as a top priority as the country moves ahead.

The lawmakers want Lujan Grisham to demand a Special Session of the Legislature and help legislation that would allow pharmaceutical sellers to prosecute those who supply people with fentanyl or fentanyl-related compounds if the drug is consumed and causes death.

The government is also being asked to fix what they refer to as “dilapidated and compromised” areas of the boundary fence as well as to increase communications facilities.

The senators even noted that the governors of Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska, Virginia, and West Virginia, have deployed their National Guard members to assist at the southern borders, adding that it’s time for New Mexico to take its National Guard to the borders, too.

” We have more pressing issues than hawking, and if the Governor calls us into Special Period at a taxpayer cost of$ 50, 000 per day, we should really do something to strengthen public safety”, said Brantley, of Elephant Butte. I refuse to sit back and wait for the incompetent officials in Washington D.C. to mend Biden’s border crisis because the organized criminal activity at our borders agreements every New Mexican’s safety and security. It’s time to act and protect those who swore to provide, and the Executive and Legislature have the tools at their disposal.
