Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Sherrod Brown of Ohio, and Jon Tester of Montana voted with their Democratic associates to , nullify , a Federal Highway Administration law that reviewers have characterized as an effort to reduce the number of gas- controlled vehicles on America’s roadways. Independent Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who generally caucuses with Democrats, even voted in favor of the impeachment quality, bringing the final vote tally to 53- 47.

Manchin and Republican colleagues were instrumental in the passage of the impeachment decision, while Brown and Tester each face bipartisan reelection campaigns in the 2024 cycle.

Republican North Dakota Sen. Cramer has been a constant and vociferous critic of the legislation, describing it as “fundamentally impossible” in rural state like the one he represents. He has even previously , characterized , the rules as a thinly- veiled efforts by the federal government to force EVs.
Other federal agencies, such as the , Environmental Protection , Agency , and the , National Highway Safety Transportation Administration, have pushed their own rules in recent months that will effectively mandate large increases in EV production over the coming years.
The Federal Highway Administration and the White House did not respond to a request for comment right away.
