Given the amount to which the government’s outward appearance is altered and what for audio conceals to electors who rely solely on Spanish-language newscasts, it took me a moment to get there.
Look at Biden’s Constitutionally- challenged rant on guns, both in the original English and as dubbed into Spanish, as aired on Univision ( Spanish ) and Unimás ( English ) on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024:
JOE BIDEN: The idea we do n’t have background checks for anybody purchasing a weapon, the idea that we’re going to be in a position where he says that he famously told the NRA that do n’t worry, no one’s going to touch your guns if I… From the very beginning, I used to teach the Second Amendment in law school, from the very beginning, there were limitations. You may n’t possess a gun. You could n’t … You could own a rifle or a gun.  ,
ENRIQUE ACEVEDO: Weapons of war.
JOE BIDEN: They were n’t weapons of war.
The distinction is as dramatic as the day and night.  ,
Those who watched the TelevisaUnivision interview of Joe Biden on Unimás ( as I did, primarily ) got English with subtitles. We heard the leader in his own words, talk style and habits. We made judgments about his sobriety and consciousness after hearing him leave several times. Based on this feed, we were able to make speculative decisions regarding the effectiveness of the ( alleged ) White House medical cocktail team ( hard to say for sure because the interview was broken into shorter interviews across multiple venues as opposed to Trump’s protracted sit-down at Mar-a-Lago ).
Because of the excellent work that the speaker did, those who watched the Spanish-dubbed meeting on Univision were denied that perspective. When dubbed into Spanish, Biden sounds 40 times younger and without mental decline. The interpreter’s abundant tenor, when transposed onto Biden, leaves audiences with the impression of a leader far more strenuous than he really is.  ,
In reality, this has always been the case when covering president in Spanish-language advertising. Each system employs a contract interpreter who interprets national addresses on-call. These people are experienced, highly competent, and have worked through some services. However, Joe Biden posed the same fundamental problems as none of those president. One can effectively express what Joe Biden is saying, but not the trail-offs and vacant gaze. The viewer’s perception of mental collapse becomes meaningless. The fairest way to present Biden to a Spanish- strong crowd, therefore, is simply to present him as is, in English with Spanish subtitles as was shown on Univision’s girl system Unimás. Allow the people see for themselves.  ,
One notices that there have n’t been any interventional pieces filed by the Acela Media and no extensive protests made by the Professional Latinx after the interview has been processed for a few days. No articles from the Washington Post or New York Times offer a troubled office description. The extremely scripted, choreographed, and overproduced campaign video appears to have satiated those who were upset by the Trump discussion, and Anita Dunn stoked TelevisaUnivision by convincing them to release their own” ball” interview.
The most dangerous predicament for Biden would have been, as I said in my preview, getting the same kind of interview that Trump did. But Biden got the exact same. And Univision’s Hispanic- language people, who reports show are part of the most misguided group among voters, got more of the same.
