Representative Michael McCaul ( R- TX ), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said , Wednesday on , CNN’s” The Situation Room” that it would be “extremely dangerous” if the , Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act ( FISA ) reauthorization is not passed.
As the FR=B I director of Warren today, Host Wolf Blitzer said,” Are American lives at risk if Congress does n’t reauthorize FISA, the foreign intelligence surveillance act?”
McCaul said”, I 100 % agree with Director Wray. In my previous career, I was a federal prosecutor after 9/11 on terrorism. I worked with the FBI on FISA permits. We stopped a lot of bad things from happening. If FISA is no reauthorized tomorrow and the world goes black, the Americans will be in danger and will face increased risk, regardless of whether there will be jihadists in Afghanistan or Hamas if they leave the Middle East.
He added”, This is the bad time to play politics with this.”
According to Blitzer,” The holdouts on FISA, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act appear to be warming to some changes,” particularly that the fresh version of the bill should have a two-year reauthorization rather than what so many people want a five-year approval. Are you you’re ok with the two- time screen, at least as a minimum?”
McCaul said,” I will consider it to your reauthorization as opposed to allowing FISA to disappear because that would be very dangerous to allow that to happen.”
