Comedian, poet, and late-night number Conan O’Brien chimed in on the suicide of former NFL superstar O. J. Simpson by bringing up a Television administrative at NBC who was one of Simpson’s close personal friends who was fired from his Saturday Night Live show over the latter’s sexist jokes.
After Simpson was accused of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, in 1994, MacDonald spent decades raking Simpson over the charcoal in prank after prank during his places on the sitcom show’s “Weekend Update” section.
Some have argued that MacDonald’s frequent yells at Simpson contributed to the decision to fire him from the demonstrate. By 1998, NBC had become famous.
Obviously, O’Brien stock that notion.
During an interview on CNN on Thursday, O’Brien called MacDonald’s body knocks on Simpson the “most outstanding comedy ” of the 1990s, Fox News reported.
MacDonald was fired in 1998 by NBC administrative Dan Ohlmeyer. MacDonald claimed to have been told by Ohlmeyer to make up his face that he was not amusing when he told David Letterman. Yet though SNL‘s Lorne Michaels was in favor of MacDonald, Ohlmeyer was able to persuade him to leave the show.
“It was a great bargain back then, ” O’Brien told Jake Tapper on Thursday. “Most somewhat – he’s passed on – Norm MacDonald, one of my best guests of all time and one of the wonderful comedians of all time, merely told some of the most – did the most beautiful, I think, comedy of anything during that whole period. ”
O’Brien resolutely claimed MacDonald had lost his job as a result of his Simpson gags, adding that O’Brien was in close contact with O at the time. J. ”
O’Brien also noted that America’s history was marked by the Simpsons story and the “trial of the millennium.”
“It was a, you know, large – there have been many times in this land where we’ve needed to stop and evaluate where we are in our cultural background, where are we, what progress have we made, and that was one of those times, and it was such a boundary moment, ” O’Brien said.
This week, Simpson, 78, passed away from cancer. In 2021, MacDonald passed away from cancer before Simpson.
