Following a pro-Palestinian opposition that involved occupying an operational building on college, 19 students from Pomona College in Claremont, California, were detained.
The pro-Palestinian kids were protesting the removal of artwork depicting an “apartheid wall, ” according to a report by the Guardian.
According to the Claremont Police Department, 18 individuals were detained and charged with criminal trespass, and one student was detained for obstructing the course of justice.
According to a report from the San Bernardino Sun, the organization Pomona Divest from Apartheid had held a sit-in with more than 150 pupils on April 5.
The students apparently chanted, “Stop the shooting, quit the murder, Gaza has no food or water! ” and “Up, upward with independence. Down, along with job! ”
Gabi Starr, president of Pomona College, wrote in an open letter that students who took part in the demonstration are subject to an instant suspension. ”
“Any members in today’s activities on the SCC garden or in Alexander Hall, who turn out to be Pomona individuals, are subject to immediate expulsion, ” Starr wrote. Students from the other Claremont Colleges likely be prohibited from their own schools and subject to discipline there. ”
All personal students who are not members of the Claremont Colleges community are quickly prohibited from campus, according to the statement. Starr added.
In a conversation with an executive, the college president added that protestors allegedly refused to identify themselves and used an “anti-black cultural slur” to address themselves.
“A group of individuals refused to identify themselves to Campus Safety and Student Affairs staff, and proceeded to verbally abuse workers, even using a horrible, anti-black racist slur in addressing an administrator, ” Starr said.
Masked protesters have been occupying a portion of the Smith Campus Center (SCC ) lawn for the past week, according to Starr. We collaborate with individuals who are exercising their right to protest unless that opposition encroaches on the rights of another, even though this activity was against our plans. ”
Additionally, we demand that all students on campus provide identification at the request of college administrators or Campus Safety, Starr said. This is crucial for our community’s health, particularly when these people are masked. ”
The event at Pomona College is just the most recent instance of school disruption caused by pro-Palestinian student protest.
As Breitbart News reported, three Following a pro-Palestinian rally on campus that resulted in some detention last month, Vanderbilt University students were expelled.
