Nope, we aren’t yet kidding.
A 16-year-old North Carolina student used the word “illegal alien” in his English school next week, and he was suspended for three days. According to The Carolina Journal, the pupil used the word to deepen their understanding of an essay and received punishment for it.
The student’s family, Leah McGhee, noted that the English teacher assigned many vocabulary comments during school, one of which was “alien. ” To gain quality, McGhee’s kid asked, “Like space creatures or illegal aliens without clean cards? ”
Properly legitimate to ask for explanation if you ask, but not everyone agreed. The McGhee scholar seemingly threatened to fight him because another pupil was offended by him. The secretary principle was called in by the teacher, and in the end, the principal and the school decided McGhee’s statement was offensive and insulting to spanish classmates. ”
The baby received a three-day suspension, but it appears that the one who threatened to fight him had no effect or abuse. Also, as The Carolina Journal noted, this could harm McGhee’s history as he looks to apply to institutions and for scholarships.
“ I did n’t make a statement directed towards anyone; I asked a question, ” McGhee said. Because everyone from other countries requires green cards, and because the term “illegal alien” is a fact that I read about on the news and can find in the dictionary, I did n’t mention him. ”
The McGhee community is negotiating a resolution, but the assistant director has so far refused to take the infraction off the student’s record.
Our son was disciplined and given THREE weeks OUT of his class suspension for “racism” because of his problem, his mother wrote about it before saying,” He is devastated and concerned that the racism logo on his college record may harm his future goal of receiving a track scholarship. We worry that because he has been absent for three days straight, he may fall behind in his lessons. ”
This is completely ridiculous.
Yet the state legislator Steve Jarvis (R-N) is. C ) said, “ I do not see that that would be an offensive statement, just in getting clarification ” but the school has remained firm in its disciplinary action towards McGhee. According to The Carolina Journal, the student book states that “schools may restrain a student’s right to free speech when the conversation is vulgar, aggressive, promoting unlawful drug use, or reasonably expected to cause a significant disruption to the school day. ”
So using the term “illegal alien” to inquire about illegal creatures is apparently offensive?
The public education system has completely disappeared.
