By refusing to release water from its reservoirs as part of an international deal signed in 1944, Mexico has been destroying Texas farmers and border areas. A Texas region has been forced to issue an emergency declaration due to the ongoing problem, which has become worse as a result of prolonged drought.
This year, Judge Eddie Trevino of Cameron County issued a crisis declaration for his province, claiming that the drought conditions presented an immediate and persistent threat to the area. The declaration comes ahead of the start of South Texas ‘ hot summer season, which is expected to have a negative impact on farmers and areas due to a lack of water, according to Trevino in a prepared speech.
The state prosecutor sent papers to the U.S. earlier this year. S. In order for Texas districts to deal with the issue, the Department of State requested that they exert pressure on Mexico to allow them to release water from their rivers. These words appear to have been unproductive.
The International Water Treaty from 1944, which regulates how much liquid each nation receives from the Rio Grande and the Colorado River, serves as the source of the conflict. According to records from the convention, Mexico gets 4,317,210,000 square meters of water every 15 weeks from the Rio Grande, while Texas gets 2,158, 605, 000.
Authorities in Texas claim that Mexico has not been able to replenish the fluids rates at Amistad and Falcon Dams due to the fact that it has not released its share of water.
Trevino has urged farmers in his province to contact the U.S. S. to have access to a variety of funding and tools for disaster assistance to keep their crops and stop further damage.
