Virginia mother begs county to stop raising taxes: ‘Cannot afford to expand our family here’

On Tuesday, a family from Fairfax County, Virginia, made a passionate plea to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to reject its budget plan to increase fees and expenses on residents.

It is typical for Fairfax County residents to receive just a 3 % pay increase year over year, she said at the hearing’s speaker podium while wearing a baby wrap carrier that carried a small infant. Unlike the board, which received a 20 % salary increase effective 2024.

Some Fairfax County, Virginia people, including this family, are asking the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors not to raise taxes once more this year this month:

I think I’m not the only one who feels like we ca n’t afford to have another child because my family considers… tweets. com/zKWkf4JGwF— Nick Minock ( @NickMinock ) April 16, 2024

“As we are all informed, the cost of life has soared since the beginning of COVID-19. With all of this being said, as taxpayers, we are constantly searching for ways to make ends meet and things to cut out of our family ’s budget, ” the unidentified mother explained.

The county intends to pass a budget that would increase the average homeowner’s tax bill by$ 524 and would have a 7 % tax increase. In contrast, fees for trash collection, recycling, sewage, tobacco, and sports would all go up in value. This is in response to the board’s vote last year for a pay raise, vehicles, and board member salaries to increase.

The 19 % increase in daily goods and services resulting from inflation easily eclipses these smallest salary increases. Examples of these breaks include delayed household planning, delayed home inspection, no more eating out, no trips, and delaying membership, etc, ” the mother said to the table on Tuesday.

She added that the higher taxes and fees may hinder her ability to raise a family.

We are certain that we cannot afford to increase our community around in Fairfax County as my home considers having another child. I want you to start putting the effort and thought into sorting through the budget before deciding which needs and wants your citizens have that do n’t need to see a tax increase, she said.

The Fairfax family had to start her speech by urging the board members to look at her while they were speaking rather than surfing on their phones. The Fairfax native claimed that she had been waiting for an hour and a half to arrive talk to them as she criticized the government authorities while holding a younger child. She explained to them that talking and looking at somebody was both acceptable behaviors. Despite her demand, Chairman Jeff McKay and Supervisor Dan Storck continued to look over, according to ABC7.
