According to federal documents, Sen. Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security ( DHS) approved a work permit for Jose Antonio Ibarra of Venezuela, who is accused of murdering 22-year-old Laken Riley, despite discovering he had a prior criminal history. Josh Hawley (R-MO).
On February 22, Laken Riley went for a morning jog around the University of Georgia ( UGA ) campus in Athens, Georgia. Later that evening, Riley’s clubbed body was discovered in a woody place. Ibarra was detained and charged with her death the following day.
During a Senate resources hearing on Thursday, Hawley read aloud the DHS report on Ibarra, which he said lawmakers just lately obtained.
According to the papers that Hawley read, Ibarra was encountered at the United States-Mexico frontier near El Paso, Texas, on September 8, 2022. DHS officials cited “detention capacity, ” according to Hawley, as the reason Ibarra was rewarded parole.
“You and I both know [lack of detention capacity ] is not a valid reason [for parole ] under the statute, ” Hawley told DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) data, as previously reported by Breitbart News, indicates that there were approximately 8,100 detention facilities at the time Ibarra was encountered at the border.

Biden’s broad Catch and Release system, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY ) noted, purports to give parole to migrants on a “case-by-case” basis for public benefit or humanitarian reasons. Mayorkas said he would never comment on the situation, but Paul asked him if confinement capacity is a cause migrants are given probation.
“ Why was [Ibarra] paroled? ” Paul frequently asked Mayorkas.
According to Hawley, Ibarra reported to bureau officials in New York City for a biological interview where he was fingerprinted on July 19, 2023. The outcomes of those prints, according to the report, show Ibarra had a previous criminal history.
Ibarra was detained on September 14, 2023, after showing up for a child-related act. Despite the command, Ibarra was no prosecuted, and the imprisonment was expunged.
Ibarra applied for an Employment Authorization Document ( EAD ) with the United States two months later, in November 2023, according to the DHS file. S. USCIS, or Citizenship and Immigration Services. On December 9, 2023, Hawley said the DHS report says that Ibarra’s labor force application was approved.
Less than three weeks after securing the job force, Ibarra was charged with Riley’s death.
“This is your plans in motion, ” Hawley told Mayorkas. A criminal is permitted into this region on grounds that are blatantly illegal and incompatible with the statute. He commits a murder against a baby, and then he gets a job permit… therefore, in February, he commits the terrible violence against Laken Riley. ”
