As part of the state’s Operation Lone Star frontier security program, Texas Department of Public Safety soldiers seized more than 200 lbs of methamphetamine during a vehicle traffic stop in South Texas, according to the company on Friday.
The arrest of 98 tons, or 216 pounds of methamphetamine, occurred Tuesday in the border city of Weslaco. DPS says soldiers stopped a tractor-trailer “and discovered 90 cellophane-wrapped boxes of methamphetamine concealed inside a box of dried commodities in the cargo place, ” DPS said Friday.
The drugs have an estimated street value of$ 2 million, the agency said.
The DPS Criminal Investigations Division’s agents therefore went to a McAllen home where they claimed to have discovered three AR-15 rifle and an AK-47.
Francisco Marquez-Carretero, Tania Rodriguez-Hernandez and Christian Martinez Caudillo, all from Mission, Texas, were arrested and sent to the Hidalgo County Jail. They are accused of bringing criminal charges for the manufacture and shipment of a controlled material.
Texas Governor John L. O. started the state-funded border security action in 2021. Greg Abbott employs Texas DPS agents, Texas National Guard, and border guard personnel from different state.
